Barolo. Barolo is the heavyweight champ of Italian wines – full-flavored, robust, a match for the heartiest entrees. Barolo wine comes from a group of small towns, including Barolo, that dot the hillsides of northwest Italy’s Piedmont region.   The fourth extract from Oz Clarke's book, The History of Wine in Bottles, examines the 'Wine of Kings', Barolo, in the 19th century. For most of the last years, Barolo has been talked of as Italy’s leading wine. Brunello di Montalcino (currently very trendy in Italy) takes a tilt at it now and then, but while Brunello might be likened to some other wines, nothing is likened to Barolo.

Barolo. The village of Barolo 5 km north of Novello has given name to the wines, and the inhabitants receive a very large number of tourists. They come to taste the grapes and see the wine museum WiMu that has been established in a thousand year old castle. There’s also a charming cork screw museum, and several cafes, restaurants and wine.   Visit to the Giuseppe Rinaldi Winery @ Via Monforte 2, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy (7/4/) After a lovely lunch at La Cantinetta, I walked to the Giuseppe Rinaldi Winery for a 3pm r legendary winery which is a Fine Wine Geek favorite with a FWG Giuseppe Rinaldi , my long-time Nebbiolo group and I sat with Beppe and Marta Rinaldi at the Gala Dinner .

As Mauro Mascarello observed when interviewed for Maurizio Rosso’s fine book, The Mystique of Barolo, his overriding goal is to produce a wine that carries the signature of its underlying vineyard: “This is my aim: I want a wine to taste of “terroir” and grape, not of wood.”.

Barolo and Barbaresco will be the definitive book on the subject for years to come. Serious people in the wine trades, sommeliers, candidates for Master of Wine or Master Sommelier, collectors, and just plain Nebbiolo aficionados will be unable to do without it/5(43). Masnaghetti, a leading cartographer, who has been creating highly detailed vineyard maps of the Barolo zone for more than a decade (his book Barolo MGA is a must for the serious student of Barolo), believes there are plenty of exceptions to the common wisdom of the "lighter style" of La Morra Barolo.

The communes and their personalities. Barolo is produced mainly in five communes which all surround the hill towns of the same name: La Morra, Serralunga d’Alba, Montforte d’Alba, Castiglione Falletto and Barolo.

Over the hills the neighbouring Barbaresco is made in the communes of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and San Rocco Seno d’Elvio. Each delivers its own style of the Nebbiolo. He himself had written a book (Mystique of Barolo) -- essentially an oral history of the men of the region –which served Suzanne "as a roadmap for editorial development" and as a "reference resource." He talked about a recent and important phenomenon wherein many wineries are.
